Steal Season 1 Episode 6 Recap & Ending Explained

You’re Currently On part 1 of 4 — Steal

Episode 6 begins with Morgan ambushing Zara in her home, threatening to kill Luke if she doesn’t hand over her cold wallet and passcode.

In a brilliant move, Zara manages to talk her way out of it by pointing out that £5 million is travel money at best once you factor in the cost of a new identity and avoiding extradition. She convinces Morgan to go after Milo’s £20 million instead, arguing that with that kind of cash, he’d be truly untouchable.

Morgan agrees but forces Zara to hand over her cold wallet as collateral. They head to Milo’s house, where Zara finally confronts Luke for being a horrible friend who roped her into a death trap. Luke, ever the bumbling fool, is genuinely shocked to hear about Milo’s massive payout, confirming that Milo lied to him just as much as he lied to Zara; he was only promised £100,000 as well.

When Milo returns from work, he finds his living room occupied by his coworkers and immediately knows something is up. Before he can run, Morgan has a weapon to his head. Milo is forced to give up his cold wallet, but his passcodes are stored at Lochmill. Morgan starts considering just taking Zara’s £5 million and running to avoid the stress of a return trip to the crime scene, but Milo explains that the £20 million is actually untraceable money. Unlike Kate and Luke who were actually paid directly, he specifically siphoned it out in bits.

As they prepare to go to Lochmill for the passcode, Milo decides to play hero and pepper-sprays Morgan, despite Zara warning him not to, only to be brutally stabbed to death. Despite being suspended, Rhys has been trying to dig into Milo and Kate’s records, but Sam Finch wouldn’t let his partner, Ellie, help. He calls Yoshida, but he can only access it at Lochmill. Rhys is waiting for him there when he spots Zara, Luke, and Morgan entering the bank.

He immediately calls for backup, but Morgan already gets the passcode he needs and attempts to kill Luke and Zara. Luke surprisingly steps up and knocks him unconscious. However, the office security system has shut down all communications. As Luke tries to reboot the systems to call for help, Morgan wakes up. He easily overpowers Zara, who doesn’t know how to use a gun, and knocks Luke out cold as well.

What Was the Purpose Of Ths Heist In Steal Season 1?

While the physical fight is happening, the digital heist is completing its true mission. The stolen money has been used as a digital bloodhound to uncover the secret tax havens of celebrities, CEOs, and the Chancellor himself. The sheer volume of exposed corruption forces the Chancellor to resign. This is an act of financial activism.

The primary crew of thieves, realizing Morgan has become a liability, receives a final order from their employer: kill Morgan. But when they arrive at the bank, Morgan manages to kill every single one of them in a frenzy. MI5 agents arrive on the scene shortly after, but instead of intervening, they wait for the dust to settle so they can simply clean up the mess and control the narrative.

Zara and Luke’s fate

While trying to save Zara, Rhys gets shot, and they hide in the bathroom. Rhys wants them to stay hidden until the police arrive, but Zara refuses to let everything that happened be for nothing. She goes after her cold wallet and manages to tase Morgan to death. Soon after, the cops arrive, and the story spun to the media is that a gas leak happened at Lochmill.

The entire heist is blamed on the dead Milo. Luke and Zara’s names are kept out of the news as long as they keep quiet. Luke is relieved, but Zara feels guilty about Milo’s death and the fact that they never found the person truly responsible for the heist.

She visits Rhys, who has now lost his job, which honestly makes no sense. His debt has been sold to dangerous people with high interest, and he’s mortgaged his house to repay it. Before Morgan died, Zara asked why they did all this, and he told her to ask her police friend. She asks Rhys if he was involved, and he’s deeply offended by the question, since he lost everything because of the case. Still, it sparks something in him.

Who is the Real Mastermind in Steal?

When Zara goes to Lochmill to retrieve her things, she’s told the pension money has been returned. On her way out, she spots Rhys in the elevator, who tells her the orchestrator was—drumroll please—Yoshida. Yoshida’s expertise is rare, and he deliberately turned down two cases to take this one. Luke was abducted shortly after Rhys and Yoshida interviewed him, which was when Yoshida realized Luke was a liability. When the thieves came earlier to the bank to kill Morgan, Rhys had called Yoshida to meet him there, but he never showed.

Yoshida drops the façade and admits he was the mastermind. His motivation actually makes sense: regular citizens are forced to pay taxes, while powerful people hide money in tax havens. Using people’s pensions was meant to create noise, and it worked. So far, 32 key figures have been exposed for tax evasion, and the Prime Minister announces a public inquiry into British overseas territories being used for tax avoidance.

Rhys points out that the inquiry will probably be shut down once the buzz dies down. The rich have been getting away with this for a long time, and that won’t suddenly change. Yoshida insists he never meant for anyone to die, which was why Luke was abducted, not killed, and why he sent the other thieves to take out Morgan when he went after Zara. Even though the pension money has been returned, Yoshida still has the money stolen from the tax havens. He offers Zara and Rhys £10 million if Rhys doesn’t arrest him. Rhys is tempted—it would solve all his problems—but Zara convinces him to turn it down, because that would mean Yoshida owns them.

How Did Steal Season 1 End?

As Rhys laments the lost millions, Zara reveals Milo’s untraceable cold wallet hidden among her things. She knew MI5 would search her, and if her own wallet wasn’t found, they’d suspect she took it. The only people who knew about Milo’s £20 million were Morgan, Luke, and her—and Luke wasn’t smart enough to ask about it. In the end, Zara now has more than enough money to do whatever she wants with her life, and this time, she wants to live happily. And yes, that also means Rhys’s debt will finally be cleared.

Is Steal based on a true story?

While the show feels incredibly realistic and taps into modern anxieties about financial stability, it is actually a fictional story created by Sotiris Nikias.

Will there be a Steal Season 2?

As of right now, Prime Video has not officially greenlit a second season, but they haven’t canceled it either. Given that the show only premiered on January 21, 2026, the streaming giant is likely waiting to see if the binge-watching numbers hit the stratosphere before making an announcement. However, the finale didn’t exactly wrap everything up with a neat little bow, leaving the door wide open for Zara and Rhys to return to the screen.

What happened to Darren Yoshida?

One of the most frustrating parts of the finale was the lack of handcuffs for our resident mastermind. While Rhys and Zara rejected his £10 million bribe, we never actually got to see the police drag him away. Yoshida is a rare expert who knows where the bodies—and the bank accounts—are buried, and his “financial activism” mission is technically ongoing. If he’s still out there with the money stolen from tax havens, he remains the most dangerous man in London, and a second season could easily focus on the fallout of his exposure of the Prime Minister and other key figures.

Why didn’t Luke tell MI5 about the £20 million?

We all know Luke is a bit of a bumbling fool who was only promised a measly £100,000 for his troubles, but is he really forgetful enough to miss a £20 million detail? When he and Zara handed over their cold wallets to MI5 in exchange for their freedom, the “missing” money from Milo’s account was never mentioned. It’s highly possible Luke was so relieved to just be alive that he didn’t realize Zara had pulled a fast one by hiding Milo’s wallet in her work supplies. If he eventually puts two and two together, he might cause problems for Zara later on.

Can Rhys really pay off his debts without being caught?

This is the biggest red flag of all. Rhys is currently an unemployed former detective whose gambling debts have been sold to some very unsavory characters. If he suddenly shows up and pays off his mortgage and high-interest loans with Milo’s untraceable crypto, the authorities—or worse, the people he owes money to—are going to notice. Zara might think she’s saving him, but she might actually be putting a massive target on his back. A second season could dive into the “clean-up” phase where they realize that having £20 million is actually more stressful than being broke.
